Home School Agreement

We believe passionately in educating children who will be able to adapt to an uncertain future and become a lifelong learner. Our creative topic-based curriculum allows them to become divergent thinkers, skilling them with the tools in order to excel in all they do. We create a culture in our classrooms that systematically cultivates children’s learning, enabling them to become better learners. This culture also allows them to grow in their confidence, enabling them to face difficulty and uncertainty calmly. Children who are more confident of their own learning ability find learning much more enjoyable and achieve much greater levels.

The importance of home-school collaboration: 

Effective partnerships between parents and school staff have a significant positive impact on supporting children in their social and academic development. Effective partnerships that promote learning outcomes are based on mutual trust, respect and a shared responsibility between the teaching staff as the professionals and parents as first educators. This partnership is particularly relevant at the early years stage of a child’s education. We ask you to read through and sign the following agreement which sets out this partnership. Ways to support your child at school: 

  • Ensure they bring their book bag to school every day.
  • Ensure they bring their literacy (reading) folder to school every day.
  • Attend any parent workshops or learning sessions to support your child’s academic
  • development.
  • Ensure your child attends school each and every day, from 8.45am – 3:15pm.
  • If possible, stay to support your child’s learning at school for our soft start period from 8.45 – 9.15am (Nursery and Reception only).
  • Ensure your child has a spare change of clothes in school at all times as we will be getting messy! (Nursery and Reception only)
  • Label all jumpers, water bottles and coats.
  • Ensure your child follows the school uniform policy.
  • Come to your child’s celebration assembly.
  • Encourage your child to take responsibility for their belongings and for dressing themselves.
  • Speak to a member of staff if you have any questions or concerns.

 Communication between home and school: 

  • Inform the school of your child’s absence before 8.30am.
  • Attend all meetings about your child, at the agreed times with the school.
  • Immediately attend the school in the event of an emergency.
  • Read all letters sent out by the school and reply when appropriate.
  • Always treat everyone in the school community with respect.
  • Make the school aware of any concerns or problems that might affect your child’s work or behaviour.
  • Ensure that the school office has up-to-date contact numbers in case of emergency.

 Ways to support your child at home: 

  • Read with your child daily and sign the reading record.
  • Ensure your child has a suitable night’s sleep ready for each school day.
  • Ensure your child eats a healthy breakfast and lunch.
  • Monitor your child’s internet use, ensuring they are only accessing age-appropriate content and for a limited amount of time.
  • Encourage your child’s love of learning by asking them about their day and showing enthusiasm.
  • Attempt to take your child on as many cultural visits as possible and encourage your child to take advantage of the opportunities offered, both educational and extra-curricular, by the school.
  • Support your child in working towards achieving their academic and social targets.

 Our commitment as a school: 

  • We will support parents in their understanding of the curriculum by offering workshops and stay and learn sessions.
  • We will provide a balanced, stimulating, and well-taught curriculum to meet the individual needs of your child.
  • We will provide a caring, safe and supportive environment to promote learning and well-being.
  • We can provide materials you need to support your child at home and will keep you up-todate about your child’s progress.
  • We will value your child’s interests and document their individual learning journey in a celebration book. (Nursery and Reception only)
  • We will monitor your child’s behaviour, taking fair and consistent action if necessary and inform parents of any concerns.
  • We will listen to and value any wishes or aspirations you may have for your child’s learning and development.

 Children’s Commitments:

  • I will develop my learning muscles.
  • I will show that I understand my rights and the rights of others.
  • I will always work collaboratively with other children in a positive manner.
  • I will respect the property of the school, myself and others.
  • I will demonstrate the Larkhall PSCD traits when I’m in class and around school.
  • I will always accept the consequences for my actions when I make mistakes.
  • I will always follow the expectations of all adults.
  • I will always try to manage my emotions to make positive behaviour choices both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • I will not bring in prohibited items.

Together we can support your child in their educational and social development, both in and out of school. Larkhall seeks to promote a partnership model which facilitates and supports the learning of all members: children, school staff, parents and members of the wider community.
