WELCOME BACK

Dear Families

A big welcome back to all of our families and a happy new year to you all. I do hope you managed to have a good break. I hope you and your families are keeping well. The years are zipping by it seems and I can’t quite believe we are in the year 2023. As always, please take the time to look at the information within this Newsletter. It is being put on the website and onto Dojo.

PUNCTUALITY AT THE START OF THE DAY

During this week, there have been a number of children arriving at or after 8:45am each day. Routines are so important for our children as is the need to develop the life skill of being on time for the start of the day. A reminder that the school gates are open from 8:30am and close at 8:45am prompt. If the children arrive at 8:30am and at the latest 8:40am it sets them up for the day ahead as their teachers have specified work set for them at this time. Furthermore, if the children are arriving after 8:45am it means they are missing this learning opportunity at 8:30am as well as the start of their morning sessions that begin at 8:45am.

CLASS NEWSLETTERS

All families will today receive their child’s Class Newsletter for spring term 1. These Newsletters are sent out at the start of each half term and are such an important part of home-school communication. They outline the learning content your child will be covering this term. Of course, after reading this Newsletter, you would like to know more about to support your child at home, then please speak to your child’s class teacher.

PSCD

I do want to make you aware of the PSCD curriculum we teach our children here at Larkhall. It is such an important of our children’s development and ensures they are taught skills such as being social aware, having self-awareness and the importance character plays as they get older. Meaning Personal and Social Character Development, PSCD underpins so much of what we do and underpins our entire school curriculum. If any parent would like to know about this part of the school curriculum, then please speak to your child’s class teacher or a member of the senior leadership team.

Spring Term One

  • Week 1 is Healthy Body
  • Week 2 is Hope
  • Week 3 Healthy Mind
  • Week 4 is Teamwork
  • Week 5 is Judgement
  • Week 6 is Appreciation

PARENT WORKSHOPS

The development of all of our children is more assured when school and families work together. With this in mind, one of the many activities we hold dear at Larkhall is our Parent Workshops. Please look out for other Workshops held across other year groups. The first workshops this calendar year the following:

  • 18th January – Year 1 Homework Workshop at 8:45am or 3:30pm
  • 19th January – EYFS Phonics Workshop at 8:45am

SCHOOL TWITTER FEED

I know I often mention this, but please do take the time to look at the Larkhall Twitter feed on the school website. It is full of the amazing learning our children are demonstrating each and every week. The staff at Larkhall are fantastic at bringing the curriculum alive and this is highlighted on Twitter. It is something I highlight in each Friday morning Celebration Assembly as it enables all of the children to see what other children in school are learning about.

That’s it from me. If there is anything else myself or a member of the team can do to help and support you during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch in the usual ways. I am also always on the Gaskell Street gates each morning from 8:30am.

Best wishes

Gary
