Dear Families
Please find enclosed the latest Larkhall Newsletter. As always, please take the time to look at the information within this Newsletter. It is being put on the website and onto Dojo.
CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT TRIPS
Please see below with regards the recent curriculum trips that have taken place over the last fortnight.
Year 1 went on a trip to the Science Museum as part of our “Is Anybody Out There?” topic this term. They had a fantastic workshop learning about life in space and loved exploring the space section!
Year 2 really enjoyed their trip to the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. They learnt how the boat was used and took part in an interactive story session all about how the ship got its name.
Year 5 had an amazing time at Kew Gardens, linked to their topic for the term.
Year 6 spent the day at the Imperial War Museum, with a focus on World War Two
YEAR 6 SAYERS CROFT RESIDENTIAL TRIP
Like previous years, the Year 6 will be travelling to Sayers Croft for their residential trip. It is always a highlight of the year for the children and I’m sure they will have an amazing time. As ever, a big thank you to the staff for giving up their time to ensure these trips can take place each year.
SAFER INTERNET DAY
Next Tuesday 7th February is Safer Internet Day and the theme is ‘Want to talk about it?’ All children will be taking part in a session with their teachers to ensure that they can stay safe when they are online. Attached to this post are some top tips for parents and carers so please do look through these and talk to your children about them.
ATHLETE VISIT – VICTORIA OHURUOGU COMING TO LARKHALL
We are incredibly excited to announce that on Wednesday 1st March the children will get to meet and work alongside Victoria Ohuruogu!
She is coming to run a fitness session with our children and lead an inspirational assembly about being a world class athlete. She has competed in the Commonwealth Games, European and World Championships in athletics running the 400m.
Your children will have the opportunity to be sponsored to take part and raise some funds for the school to buy new PE equipment. They will be bringing home a sponsorship form.
All children will come to school wearing PE or sport clothes for the day.
CELEBRATING LARKHALL MUSIC DAY
To celebrate Larkhall Music Day and to showcase our talents, children will:
– compose a piece of music
– listen to and appreciate and range of music
– visit our music room to explore different instruments
– attend our music day assembly performances
To support our music provision, we are asking for £1 donation towards new percussion instruments. Children can wear their own clothes on this day to help us raise money.
If your child currently has music lessons at school, they will be performing in our end of day music assembly. Parents are invited to watch their child perform – a message will be sent out with more details about this.
This event is only taking place in the Main School and EYFS.
SPRING TERM PARENT MEETINGS
Spring term parent meetings will be happening on Tuesday 21st February. Save the date!
You can book an appointment from Monday 6th February 2023 with your child’s class teacher.
This is a great opportunity to hear all about their learning, look through the books, find out key targets to help them to progress and ask any questions you may have.
Please note this event is only for main school children and not Woodlark families.
We look forward to seeing you there!
MOVIE NIGHT
Movie Night is back! The film will be Sonic 2.
We will be hosting another movie night (for Mainstream pupils) on Thursday 9th February from 3.30 – 5.30.
Tickets will be £5 each and this includes a drink and snacks. We have 100 tickets available and they go on sale on Monday 30th January.
This will be for children in Reception – Year 6.
Please note that we welcome our Reception children to join us, however, they will need to be comfortable and confident to come over to big school and be up in the hall with all the other children.
This film is PG rated film.
ATTENDANCE
Finally, I want to highlight the continued focus we are placing on the importance of your child attending school on time each and every day. The attendance and punctuality of children at Larkhall continues to be a major focus.
That’s it from me. If there is anything else myself or a member of the team can do to help and support you during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch in the usual ways. I am also always on the Gaskell Street gates each morning from 8:30am.
Best wishes
Gary
