Dear Families

I hope you all had a very restful half-term. It was great to see the children return to school on Monday.

We have recently passed the anniversary of Lina Santos’s passing. This has urged us all to think about Lina and remember what made her so special and such an important part of our school community. You are aware that we have the Lina Santos Memorial Garden as part of our playground. This is a place for children to sit, reflect, read, feel peace and have a chance to relax and connect with their classmates and friends. It allows children to explore their different feelings and emotions, as well as how to communicate this. It provides time and space for children to understand the importance of recognising the feelings of others and how our actions can affect both ourselves and those around us.

As a school, we are committed to promoting the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as well as creating a safe, inclusive environment for all. We re constantly focusing on how equality is about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and talents; diversity is about empowering each other and respecting, appreciating and celebrating our differences; and inclusion is everyone feeling welcomed and valued.

As always, please take the time to look at the information within this Newsletter. It is being put on the website and onto Dojo.

WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day at Larkhall has been moved to Wednesday 8th March.

All day we will be celebrating stories and authors. Children can come to school dressed up as their favourite book character.

In class they will be planning their costumes and thinking about what they have at home to make a brilliant home made outfit.

Please help them get their costume ready.

We are so excited to see their creative home-made costumes!

Thank you for your support. Any questions please speak to your child’s class teacher.

SCHOOL LUNCHES

Children will now need to be either school meals or packed lunch for the whole term. This means they choose the same EVERYDAY and stick to school meals OR packed lunch.

This will be the case moving forwards from Monday 27th February. There will no longer be the option to change during the week or during the term.

During the first week back after the holidays we will ask you to confirm what your meal pattern will be for the rest of Spring term.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

The strikes are happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over fair funding for schools and teacher pay and conditions, and not because of any issues at Larkhall Primary Campus.

I understand the challenges around making alternative arrangements for your child at short notice and that they will experience disruption to their education – we have not taken this decision lightly.

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, you will be able to receive a packed lunch for Thursday 2nd March. If you would like a school packed lunch, please contact the main school office to let them know by Tuesday 28th February. Children in Reception to Year 2 will also be eligible to collect a packed lunch on this day. This will be collected from the main school office on Gaskell Street between 10:00am and 11:00am.

We will be asking teachers to get in touch with you to give you ideas for home learning opportunities for the day.

CLASS NEWSLETTERS

All families will today receive their child’s Class Newsletter for spring term 2. These Newsletters are sent out at the start of each half term and are such an important part of home-school communication. They outline the learning content your child will be covering this term. Of course, after reading this Newsletter, you would like to know more about how to support your child at home, then please speak to your child’s class teacher.

ATTENDANCE

You all know there is a continued focus on the importance of your child attending school on time each and every day. The regular attendance and punctuality of children at Larkhall is so important for their progression, as well of course an important life skill.

The three classes with the best attendance for the academic year up until Spring Term 1 were:

  • Blackfriars Class
  • Vauxhall Class
  • Putney Class

LITTLE LARKS NURSERY (2 YEAR OLDS)

Are you or anyone you know entitled to 15 hours of FREE funding for your 2 year-old? If so, we are currently taking applications for our Little Larks Nursery.  If you require more information or support to find out if you are eligible for the funding, please contact the office on 020 7622 3820.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES

  • Friday 31st March – TERM ENDS for EASTER at 1:00pm
  • Monday 17th April – INSET DAY
  • Tuesday 18th April – Children return to school for start of summer term

That’s it from me. If there is anything else myself or a member of the team can do to help and support you during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch in the usual ways. I am also always on the Gaskell Street gates each morning from 8:30am.

Best wishes

Gary
