Newsletter 19th March 2021

Dear Parents

This is the fourth weekly letter this half term and as always, I hope you and your families are as well as can be expected in the present circumstances.

In this letter I want to highlight the expectations for children’s assessment for this academic year and finish the letter with Red Nose Day information.

As I mentioned last week, it has been amazing having all of the children back since march 8th. They have all enjoyed seeing each other and their teachers and it has been great to witness first-hand their sheer joy at being back at school.

As you can imagine with the Lark Hall staff, the children’s well-being and happiness have been at the forefront of our plans for the reintegration of the children back into school life.

I also know that many of you will be wondering what the impact has been on their learning development during these past number of months. Time is the one thing we can never claim back, so below, and I have highlighted what the assessment expectations are for the remainder of this academic year.

Arrangements for Assessment and Reporting for 2021

Arrangements for statutory assessments this year, 2021, have been changed due to the pandemic. As such, we are making some adjustments to our assessment and reporting this year. However, we will continue, as always, to monitor the children’s progress, identify strengths and areas for development and make necessary changes and improvements to our provision.

We will also continue to assess children against the normal national curriculum expectations in all year groups and share these with you over the year. This includes parent meetings which will be taking place on Monday 19th April and Wednesday 21st April (you have already received information about this). At the end of the year, we will report on the children’s overall achievement, including their academic, social and emotional development.

Year 6: Statutory SATs Tests will not take place. However, there will be internal teacher assessments using the same national curriculum criteria and we intend to make the children’s end of year experience as close to normal as possible. Teacher assessments will be shared in our end of year reports.

Year 5: There are no statutory assessments for this year group. Internal teacher assessment and reporting will continue.

Year 4: We will create our own times-table test in place of the statutory Multiplication Tables Check and report that to you. Internal teacher assessment and reporting will also continue.

Year 3: There are no statutory assessments for this year group. Internal teacher assessment and reporting will continue.

Year 2: Statutory SATs Tests will not take place. However, there will be internal teacher assessments using the same national curriculum criteria and we intend to make the children’s end of year experience as close to normal as possible. Teacher assessments will be shared in our end of year reports.

Year 1: We will create our own assessment in place of the statutory Phonics Screening Check and report that to you. Internal teacher assessment and reporting will also continue.

Reception: We will assess the children against the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile and report that to you.

Nursery: There are no statutory assessments for this year group. We will assess the children against the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile and report that to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.

Finally, Red Nose Day

Today we celebrated Red Nose Day. The children looked amazing as they arrived for school wearing something red. We raised over £200 for Comic Relief, which is a fantastic achievement. A huge well done to all of our families for joining in with the spirit. Throughout the day children have been taking part in some fun activities for Comic Relief. Check out our twitter feed to see what we get up to! @larkhallprimary

That’s it from me. As always, if there is anything else myself or a member of the team can do to help and support you during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch in the usual ways.

Best wishes

Gary
