Update 28th August 2020

Dear Lark Hall Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. In my letter dated 20th July I informed all of our families of the plans in place for September. I also said I would write to families again at the end of August with this update.

I want to make this letter quite simple. The main reason for this is that I am so very aware that there have been so many updates coming from the government and other sources that our families may well be confused and concerned with regard what to expect when the children return to school.

To remind all of our families, the children start back on Monday 7th September and will need to arrive at school between 8:45am and 8:55. The end of day is 3:15pm prompt.

Also, a very warm welcome to all our new families starting with us this term. If your child is joining our Reception or Nursery, please refer to the letter that was sent to you during earlier this month for details on your child‘s induction and start date.

All of the staff at Lark Hall are excited to welcome back all of our children on Monday 7th September. We would like to reassure all of our families that the governors and leadership have devised a set of stringent protective measures to protect the children, families and staff in order to minimise the risk of transmission around the school. These include:

  • At the start of the day there will be social distancing markings for families to follow at both Smedley Street and Gaskell Street.
  • At the end of the day a one-way system will allow families to collect their children from the playground without contact with other families or children.
  • Hand Sanitisers will be placed throughout the school.
  • Frequent hand washing will be exercised throughout the day.
  • One-way systems will be in place throughout the school to avoid children and adult coming into contact.
  • Children’s breaktimes and lunchtimes will be timetabled to avoid contact with other classes.
  • Teachers will be reminding the children of the importance of following the guidelines and all staff will be vigilant with regard the expectations of the children.
  • Classrooms and classroom equipment will be wiped down at regular intervals through the day.
  • Each class will have their own seating to eat in the lunch hall.

As well as these measures, it is important we bring back some form of normality to our children. It is important to let all of our families know that the following will also be in place.

  • Classes of children will be back to their normal size.
  • Children will be learning with their usual class peers.
  • Children will be working in their usual classroom.
  • Their usual class teacher and support staff will teach children.
  • Children will wear their usual school uniform.
  • Children will receive their reading books to be taken home and read with.
  • Children will have their normal lunchtime meal options, where children can either have a hot school lunch or bring in a packed lunch.
  • Breakfast Club and the After School Hub will both be starting on Monday 7th September.

As I have stressed, this update letter is designed to ensure all of our families receive information, which hopefully is clear, precise and reassuring.

I am mindful, a week is a long in this present situation and to ensure all of our families have complete up to date information, I will send all families a final update on Thursday 3rd September. This letter will also be specific to each child’s year group. This will include details such as which gate to arrive at in the morning, how the one-way system at the end of the day will operate and other year group specific information. This final update will not require our families to make any changes whatsoever to their planning for the start of the school year.

That is it from me. I want to reiterate, your child’s safety is at the heart of everything we are doing for the reopening of school.

Finally, we understand you may have questions regarding the reopening of school. As always, if you have any questions please call the school on 020 76223820 or email me at head@larkhall.lambeth.sch.uk

In the meantime, as always, many thanks for your understanding and patience during this difficult time.

Best wishes
